Before your application can be processed, you will need to pay the application fee. Fees vary across applications.

Application fees are set out in the Māori Land Court Fees Regulations 2013. You can pay your application fee various ways:
  • online through Pātaka Whenua using a debit or credit card
  • by bank transfer
  • at our offices using EFTPOS or cash.
    • Application for Dispute Resolution
    • Application to form a Whānau Trust (when filed together with succession)
    • An application under the Family Protection Act 1955
    • An application under the Law Reform (Testamentary Promises) Act 1949
    • Changing your name in the Māori Land Court record
    • Noting of mortgages, leases, licenses or other land use agreements by a registrar
    • Confirmation of an alienation instrument by a registrar (e.g., mortgage, lease)
    • Status change from general land to Māori land
    • Further interest succession to Māori land (where more interests are found after succession has already been completed).
    • Succession to Māori land
    • Transfer of shares in Māori land
    • Establishment of a trust over Māori land
    • Adding, reducing, or removing trustees of a trust which manages Māori land
    • Determining the ownership of structures on Māori land
    • Occupation of Māori land
    • Partition, subdivision, amalgamation and aggregation of Māori land
    • Anything related to a Māori incorporation
    • Roadways, access, easements and surveys of Māori land
    • Commercial fisheries and aquaculture-related applications
    • Chief Judge related applications
    • Confirmation of alienation by the court (transfer of shares or land)
    • Notice of appeal
    • Leave to appeal
Can’t afford the fee? Check if you’re eligible for a fee waiver or reduction.

If you’re facing financial hardship, for example, you’re on a Work and Income New Zealand benefit or you’re receiving Superannuation, you can request to have the fee waived or reduced.

You can request a fee reduction, refund, or waiver when you apply online. If you’re not applying online, you can download or ask us for a PDF version of the form. In either case, we’ll ask you to provide supporting information to provide proof of your financial situation.

Your application will not be processed until request to waive/reduce/refund the fee has been approved. We will be I touch to let you know if it has been approved or not.

There is no cost to apply for a fee waiver, reduction, or refund.
